In partnership with the Community Activities Group, SLOE has adopted the 5 city parks in our area, and organizes clean-ups in the parks and associated green spaces. SLOE has also advocated with the City for the replacement of lost or damaged trees in Brantwood Park.

SLOE is also interested in more broad-based environmental protection and rehabilitation. One area we are actively looking at is stormwater management. The precipitation that fall in Old Ottawa East’s drains directly into the Rideau River via six storm sewers along the shoreline. This is a big load for our river, and at a minimum we want to prevent any increases in loading with new developments. Ultimately, we would like to increase the level permeability so that more rainwater can soak into the ground. We hope to investigate existing conditions and opportunities via research through the University of Ottawa’s Experiential Learning Service.

The Rideau River Nature Trail  is a separate but related project that puts a lot of emphasis on ecological rehabilitation.
