This is another project that SLOE is developing in collaboration with a number of great partners - Sandy Hill Community Health Centre, the Ottawa East Community Activities Group, the local chapter of Canadian Organic Growers, Carleton University's Community Service Learning Program, and the grade 4/5/6 class at Lady Evelyn Public School! We are developing design plans for Legget Park at the corner of Main and Clegg. The idea is to establish an alternative recreational and learning environment, that uses plants and gardening to engage and entertain kids. We believe that a children’s garden is highly compatible with all of the purposes that a City park is meant to serve – recreation, beautification, community-building, learning and development.

The garden will be started this coming spring and will provide opportunities for interested children to get their hands in the soil and their noses in the flowers, and learn more about growing and taking care of food gardens and other kinds of plants. The plan is to offer some formal programming for interested children, some support for informal explorations, and some garden-related events for families.
